Monte Thomas is an educator, organist, and conductor, born in Portsmouth, Virginia. He received the Bachelor's Degree in Music from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina where he studied organ with James Abbington. He earned the Masters of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Organ from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) where he studied organ with Dr. James Kibbie and the late Professor Robert Glasgow. He currently teaches at the Carleton Elementary School in Detroit Public Schools Community District where he founded the Carleton School Chorus.
I Am Thine, O Lord is one of Eight Preludes on Hymns from the Black Church, composed for one of Dr. Thomas' dissertation recitals.
